World-scale Baseload Plants
World-scale baseload plants are used to liquefy very large quantities of gas for export. Capacities for such plants range from a few million tonnes per year to more than 10 million tons per year. The liquefied natural gas is transported by tankers to the consumer countries and then offloaded into terminals. Here, it is re-evaporated and sent to the consumer by pipeline.Mixed Fluid Cascade (MFC®) liquefaction process
Linde Engineering completed work on its first world-scale baseload plant in 2007. Linde worked together with its customer Statoil to develop the Mixed Fluid Cascade (MFC®) liquefaction process with this project specifically in mind. The Snøhvit LNG plant is Europe's first LNG baseload plant in addition to being the world's northernmost LNG plant. The Snøhvit LNG plant is also groundbreaking because of the modular construction techniques utilized for its construction.
